About Me

My photo
Ignacio, Colorado, United States
I have several people I look up to as a young freelancer. First, Jeremy Wade Shockley, when I first met him I didn't really expect much. But as time went on I got to work with him during the summer as an intern. I really saw what he's accomplished over his years as a Freelancer. I admire his work and his perspective on life. I would like to thank him for continuing to show me the way of the camera and to show everyone that a picture you take is never boring, the way you take it will always be your way you look at it. Second, Ace Styker, he's been working with the Tribe for almost a year. His stories that tell every event or thing that goes on in the tribe is truly inspirering to me. His way of writing and the way he tought me during my work time at The Drum has really inspirered me to continue writing short stories without giving a crap of what anyone says. I hope he allows himself to continue to accomplish the greater things in life! Last but not least I would like to thank my family for always being there for me no matter what happens around or with us, We will always allow ourselves to grow from eachothers problems.

Great friends come with amazing memories

You know as a photographer at the age of 18 now, I've learned to see the different aspects of peoples lives and also my own as well. It's a great experience and I have gone a long way now from two years ago when I started being a photographer.

Photography is a stong thing if your willing to be one with your camera. Amazing pictures will come out of it..

Although I dont get many opportunities like this, I was greatful that my friends were willing enough to let me take a picture of them and my little 'nephew' as well..

"Water is the only drink for a wise man" -Henry Thoreau

Photographs Copyrighted Krista Richards

Although you see many amateur's start off with the infamous water pictures..I thought it was time that I finally took mine, it was quite relaxing hearing the water running out of the faucet. As I am an amateur, I'm still looking for different elements to take pictures of and different nature picture..
I love what I do as a hobby but also as a job.

Theres no doubt that my young nephew is following in my footsteps. Only at the age of nine, he's becoming more and more of a professional at archery everytime he practices by myside. He competes in most of the Tourneys as me. He is starting his collection of trophies, plaques, and medals and i'm greatful to say this with great pride. I love him and I hope he continues to be successful not only in Sports but in Academics as well!!

Veterans Powwow, November 6, 2010

All Photographs Copyrighted Krista Richards
All of these pictures are just some of the pictures I wanted to post. Although I took 305 photos, 56 of them turned out pretty decent. The powwow had a great turn out as though I may have heard around the room. Many veterans from all three Ute tribes-Northern, Southern, Ute Mountain..we are all one no matter what ethnic group you come from. I thank you for serving to fight for our freedom. Hope ya'll enjoy the pictures and let me know what you think(feedback).

Oklahoma Adventures!

When i'm gone away from home, I didn't really imagine taking pictures of things i've seen my whole life..but since I've gotten a new addition, the Nikon D90, it takes my travels to a whole new adventure. Ever since the beginnin of this summer I started to get more interested with the whole camera concept. I imagined me not doing it at all, just sticking with what I knew..I'm glad I did, I wish I could have gotten the camera a lot sooner though. Lots and Lots of photo opportunites out there..
Downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. November 3, 2010. Great weather, I was suprised to get a good/alright picture of it. I know i'll miss seeing this when I head back home to Colorado soon.

Where my grandma's sit...they hardly come outside due to the weather changing and the fact that they can't hardly get around as much anymore. Empty chairs wait for the spring weather to come next year, hopefully I'll get the a chance to come back down then..

Trees are still full of life, autumn hasn't fully reached the Oklahoman plains just quite yet..

A lonley bridge where my sister stands, a lonley creek, both are ways to cross over to a playground where I used to play every summer when I would visit good ol' El Reno, Oklahoma..Family around, sit and talk while the children would go and play in the Oklahoma weather..nice cool breeze, wind rustling the leaves while the light sound of car engines and honks...boy, how I miss my younger years.. Photographs Copyrighted Krista Richards

Last but not least, Lake El Reno..it's been around 10 or less years since i've really been back here. I don't quite remember much but it was good to sit and watch the wind put the water and trees around..oh how i'll miss going home..

From here to there, to back again

Imagine a place where there was no hate around you. Your all alone with nothing to get in your way. You walk along a dirt road having no idea where your going, all your know is you have to get away. "Where am i going?" you say to yourself..For a moment, stopping, looking around you see a pond, you don't know how it got there but you have a strong feeling to go see it. Stopping at a wooden gate, a large sign says, "Only open to..." You can not read what the last part because it's faded to much. You stand there looking at the sign for a moment thinking if you should enter. You enter not knowing what the consequence might be. "How wonderful, why shouldn't anyone be allowed in here."

A warm breeze comforts you as you look at yourself in this wonderful water. You sit there looking at your reflexion dazing off until you notice a small water fall coming from the pond, flowing into a smaller water body.

Wow, how can something be so beautiful in such a peaceful place like this...You jump suddenly when you notice a small ceremony going on by the pond. A fallen Warrior has gone and passed. You allow yourself sometime to take a look around and check out whats going on.

Veterans come and re-fold an American Flag..How they do it is amazing. After their done they hand it off to an older woman, who sheds tears for her lost husband..

I stand in the back watching this all happen, after he's done handing her the flag, he goes to stand by the other Veterans while he gives the signal to his other friend who starts playing 'Taps' on his trumpet. What a thing of beauty..Finally i get up and walk away...before leaving the gates that surround the pond I take one last look at what im leaving behind..I walk away returning to this painful place I can home..

Native American Comedy Show

Photographs Copyrighted Krista Richards

Some of these guys have been around for awhile doing comedy shows all around the United States visiting many native american tribes. With them they bring their hilarious humor with a lot of jokes to amuse crowds not only consisting native's but also a mixture of many different ethnic groups. I had a chance to see all of them live September 18, 2010 at the Sky Ute Casino and Resort. If you guys are looking for some good laughs I highly recommend you to come see them, you won't be disappointed.
The comedy show included James Junes as the host, along with comedians Drew Lacapa, Don Burnstick, and Williams&Ree.
